Decarbonisation, de-pollution, the sharing of public space, infrastructure financing, territorial cohesion, inflation and scarcity(ies)... these are all factors that are tending to overturn certain local and national public policies. The time is now ripe for innovation and investment.
In France, the 2024 Finance Act, the Green Fund for local authorities and the Climate and Resilience Act have put mobility at the heart of the debate, while the European Commission's Green Deal is also tackling the issue. Incumbent mobility operators, start-ups and solution providers are also mobilising to provide concrete, operational solutions (micro-mobility, shared mobility, electrification of fleets, data-driven management, MaaS, etc.).
But what is really going on? What tools are available to local authorities to speed up the transition and make travel more accessible, more efficient and cleaner, everywhere and for everyone? What innovations should they be following? What are the major challenges in the short, medium and long term?
